Protecting Privacy (and promoting partnerships)

Faithful readers may have realized we’ve got a bit of a bee in or bonnet about data privacy. (Stay tuned for more on that). So suffice it to say that we found this piece an interesting write-up of a new study on data privacy from the Aberdeen Group. The big take-aways? That organizations with a best-in-class approach to data privacy report nearly 30% fewer data loss incidents than the industry average — and 92% fewer of loss incidents from so-called “malicious outsiders.” The survey ends, predictably, the same way we’d end it — with a reminder that “the most effective strategies for preventing data loss include a combination of enabling technologies, including data discovery and classification, data monitoring and filtering, and endpoint data protection.” Hmm, technology. You know all those highly-effective, time-saving, efficiency-boosting controls you’ve got in place to manage separation of duties and user access controls? Seems like there’s an awful lot of opportunity for those very same functions to be thoughtfully applied in data privacy to manage sensitive access . . .
Moving on a bit, WebCPA has a nice piece on an arrangement whereby Ernst & Young is going to be pairing its advisory services with risk controls analytics. Oh, what’s this? Oh, goodness — they’re offering risk controls analytics from Approva! Well, small world. Have we mentioned before how much we value our strong relationships with industry leaders like E&Y? Because we really do — and our clients do, too.
