Summer Fun for Internal Auditors

There’s been an interesting discussion going on this week over at RiskAnalys.is, starting with a post exploring whether it’s more important and effective to have compliance with internal protocols than external and evolving into a broader discussion of just what kinds of protocols have to be instituted in order to safeguard a business. Something to keep you thinking over the weekend . . .
Also, news that Google’s had a data security breach — apparently from an outsourced HR partner that didn’t keep private information all that private after all. We’ve said before that data privacy is no small concern for companies needing to comply with the web of state, federal and international data privacy regulations, and we doubt it’s a small concern for the folks whose identity information has been compromised, either.
Finally, Compliance Week has the goods on a study from our good friends at Protiviti showing that, a year after AS5, 40% of internal audit departments are reporting less time spent on SOX compliance. Free time for internal auditors! (To focus more on regulatory compliance issues!. Those guys have all the fun.
